What are the benefits of massage therapy?
How often should I come for massage therapy treatment?
If you live a very active lifestyle and deal with moderate to high levels of stress and have considerable aches, pains, and tension; a weekly or bi-weekly schedule has been effective for many clients.
If you live a less active lifestyle and deal with minimal stress and are interested in the benefit of wellness and relaxation, bi-weekly to monthly visits or as often as you are able, is recommended.
It is important to understand that the tension and pain that you hold in your body and mind has accumulated over a lifetime and generally will not be "cured" in one session. Massage therapy is most effective when received consistently. This is particularly true if your lifestyle and job results in repetitive stress injuries and pain.
What can I expect before my massage?
You will undress privately in the treatment room as far as you are comfortable and lie under the sheet and blanket for your treatment. Some people keep their underwear on and others remove it to allow better access to the low back area. It is recommended that women remove their bras to allow full access to the back and shoulders, however, it is possible to give an effective and thorough massage through clothing or draping. Your comfort is always the first priority.
It is recommended that you do not eat right before your massage and that you use the bathroom prior to treatment so you are able to relax completely.
What can I expect during my massage?
You will be modestly draped at all times. Lorin will un-drape each area as she works on it and will re-drape before moving on to the next.
As for conversation, it is up to you. Many people, including Lorin, enjoy their massages without conversation to enhance relaxation. Others however, just love to chat, and that’s okay too!
Lorin does play relaxing music during the massage to help your mind drift away from the realities of everyday life. If you have a favorite CD for relaxing, please feel free to bring it in!
What can I expect after my massage?
If you have requested a deep therapeutic treatment, it is possible that you may be sore for a day or two following your massage, much like you would feel after a good workout. If this soreness lasts longer please communicate this to Lorin so that the pressure can be adjusted on your next visit.
